Wool Watt covers electric blankets, heated throws and heated mattress pads. We publish the wattage each manufacturer states, the cost per night computed at a cited US electricity rate, and the wash and safety rules from the manuals. We have tested zero units and we say so on every page.
Who writes this
Scooter M. is an enthusiast who is genuinely into this stuff. I read the manuals, compile the published specs, and do the math. No lab coat, no test bench, just the numbers the manufacturers publish and the arithmetic nobody else bothers to show.
That is the whole byline and it is deliberately modest, because anything more would be untrue. I have not slept under these blankets. I have not measured a surface temperature or timed a warm-up. What I have done is read every product listing in this category carefully enough to notice which manufacturers tell you what their product draws, and then do something with that.
What we do
- Compile published specifications. Every wattage, temperature range, timer, certification and warranty term on this site is quoted from the maker's own listing and linked to it.
- Compute running costs, and show the working. Watts divided by a thousand, times hours, times a cited rate. Every figure carries its arithmetic so you can re-run it with the rate off your own bill.
- Record what is not published. When a manufacturer publishes no wattage, we say so by name rather than filling the gap. That absence is information and it is most of what we found.
- Give a reason to skip every pick. A roundup where all nine products are excellent is a roundup nobody should believe.
What we do not do
- We do not test products. No lab, no owned units, no hands-on evaluation. Units we claim to have tested: zero.
- We do not accept free products. Nothing on this site was sent to us.
- We do not accept sponsored placements. No manufacturer has paid to appear here or to rank in a particular position.
- We do not invent numbers. No estimated wattage, no remembered price, no averaged figure presented as a measurement.
- We do not give medical advice. Where a question is clinical, we say so and point you to a clinician.
The one finding that shaped the site
We checked all 29 products we track on their live listings. 8 of them publish a rated wattage, and seven of those 8 are the same brand. Sunbeam, Sealy, Serta, Beautyrest and Biddeford between them cover most of the shelf and not one states a figure.
That means for most heated blankets on sale in the United States, nobody can tell you what they cost to run, including us. The whole site is built around printing the numbers that do exist and being explicit about the ones that do not. See the watts, by model.
How this is funded
Wool Watt earns a commission when someone buys through a link here. We participate in the Amazon Associates program. Commission does not influence rankings, and because the methodology publishes the criteria, that claim is checkable rather than merely asserted. Full detail on how we are funded.
Corrections
If we have a specification wrong, or a manufacturer publishes a wattage we missed, tell us and we will fix the page and date the fix. That is info@woolwatt.com, and it is the only email address on this site.
