How Wool Watt is funded
We earn a commission on some links, at no extra cost to you. Here is exactly which programs, what we refuse, and how to check that it does not move the rankings.

Wool Watt earns a commission when a reader buys through a link on this site, at no extra cost to the reader. We participate in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. We accept no free products and no sponsored placements, and commission does not influence rankings.
The formal statement
Wool Watt is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
What that means in practice
- You pay the same. An affiliate link does not change the price. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not your total.
- We are paid on the purchase, not the click. Clicking a link here earns us nothing unless you buy something.
- We often earn nothing even when you buy. Commission windows are short and most readers do not buy on the day they read.
- Every earning link is marked. Outbound commercial links carry `rel="sponsored nofollow"` and open in a new tab, and a disclosure line sits above the first one on every commercial page.

This section names them rather than gesturing at partners, because a disclosure that does not say who is not a disclosure.

Earning merchants configured on this site: 1. Manufacturer, government and standards-body links (EIA, CPSC, UL, Sunbeam) are plain citations and earn us nothing.
That is the complete list. This is a new site and no other network has approved it, which is the normal state of a publication that is weeks old rather than a gap we are concealing.
Why commission cannot move a ranking here
Every site says commission does not influence its recommendations. The claim is worth nothing unless it can be checked, so here is how you check ours.
- 1The ranking criteria are published, with weights. They are on our methodology page. Published wattage carries 35%, controls 25%, safety disclosure 20%, warranty 10%, documented specifics 10%.
- 2Every input is cited. You can follow each wattage citation to the manufacturer listing it came from and confirm the input.
- 3Every commission is identical. Every product on this site links to the same retailer under the same program, so there is no product we could favor for a better rate even if we wanted to.
- 4We publish reasons to skip. Every product carries a "skip it if", including the ones we rank first.
What we refuse
- Free products. Nothing on this site was sent to us. This is also why we do not test: accepting a unit is the usual way testing gets funded and we would rather have neither than have both with a conflict attached.
- Sponsored placements. No manufacturer has paid to appear here or to rank in any position, and none will.
- Paid links inside editorial copy. In-body links to other pages on this site are navigation, not monetization.
- Fabricated urgency. No countdowns, no invented scarcity, no "price won't last".
Prices
Prices on this site come from a live retailer data layer and carry the date they were retrieved. When no live price is available, the button reads Check price rather than showing a number. We never display a remembered or estimated price, and a price older than 48 hours is withheld rather than shown stale.
